What we do

Mentoring for the real work of growing up.

LifeChange Mentoring is a 6 to 12 month life coaching and accountability program for young men who are ready for more independence but have not found their footing. Some are living at home and stuck. Some are struggling in school or cannot keep a job. Some are rebuilding after treatment. His mentor helps him hold a job or finish school, manage money, keep a routine, repair relationships and stay accountable, so he can stand on his own.

This is slow, steady work. The first month is about trust. After that, the goals are his, and so is the effort. His mentor makes sure someone is paying attention every week.

What his mentor works on

The parts of life that decide whether progress lasts.

Recovery

Meetings, sponsorship and honest accountability, when recovery is part of his life.

Work and school

Finding work, showing up consistently, class schedules, trade and career plans.

Money

A real budget, an emergency fund, then saving and investing basics.

Routines and health

Sleep, exercise, food, medication and appointment follow-through.

Relationships

Family, friendships and dating, handled with maturity.

Home and life skills

A clean, safe place to live and the everyday skills to keep it that way.

How it works

From the first call to a planned finish.

  1. Intro call

We learn where he is and what he wants, and explain the program, cost and expectations up front.

  2. First month: trust and a plan

His mentor gets to know him, finds the gaps and builds a plan around his own goals.

  3. Weekly mentoring and home visits

One in-person meeting and one home visit each week, with drug testing only when needed.

  4. Weekly parent updates

A clear summary of progress, concerns and next steps.

  5. A planned finish

We set the end date months ahead and leave him with a one-year plan to keep growing.

For parents

You stay informed. He keeps his mentor's trust.

Every week you hear from his mentor: what they worked on, what he committed to, anything that concerns us and the plan for next week. Updates stay general enough that he can be honest with his mentor. Serious safety concerns are always shared.

Example weekly update

We met Tuesday and did the home visit Thursday. His apartment was in good shape. He picked up two extra shifts and stayed on budget. He made three meetings and called his sponsor, and we talked about adding a fourth. Next week we'll finish his community college enrollment. No concerns right now.

Mentoring, not treatment

LifeChange Mentoring is life coaching and accountability. It is not psychotherapy or substance use treatment. It works alongside his therapist, psychiatrist and recovery program, and never replaces them.

Is this a fit?

Who mentoring helps most.

Read all questions →
  • He is living at home and not moving forward.
  • He is struggling to finish school, find work or keep a job.
  • He is rebuilding after treatment and needs accountability without a house.
  • He wants more independence and could use a steady adult in his corner.
  • His family wants to stay informed without hovering.

If he needs detox, crisis care or clinical treatment right now, start with his treatment team. Mentoring fits best once that care is in place.
